Critics worry about misuse, but the counterargument is that secrecy does not automatically create safety either.

A visibility study found that ChatGPT leaned heavily on Reddit when answering broad, unnamed recommendation questions, citing it in 298 out of 300 cases. When prompts called for official, academic, or regulatory sources, the model shifted toward those instead. But in more open-ended consumer questions, Reddit was everywhere. That matters because it suggests community chatter is now shaping AI answers in a very direct way. For publishers, brands, and ordinary users, it is a reminder that what gets discussed in forums may influence not just search rankings, but what an AI assistant tells millions of people.
One more for the developer side of the audience: a growing directory of tools for sandboxing AI coding agents shows just how unsettled that part of the stack still is. There are many different approaches, from containers to virtual machines to stricter policy wrappers, but no single standard has emerged. The reason this matters is straightforward. Once an agent gets access to files, networks, or credentials, the security risk becomes very real. So while autonomous coding keeps improving, the safety layer around those systems is still fragmented, early, and very much a work in progress.
